Pilots planning a trip to the Bahamas and/or Caribbean should closely monitor the progress of TS Matthew as it develops along the Leeward Islands. Current projections predict an increase in intensity to Hurricane strength and a turn to the north which could affect the ABC Islands, Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, Cayman Islands and The Bahamas.

TS Matthew continues to gain strength and is forecast to become a hurricane within 24 hours. The current projected path is slightly east of the one predicted yesterday and could now also affect the Dominican Republic as well as the other countries listed above.
Pilots planning a trip to these countries in the coming days should pay special attention to the development of this storm.

Matthew continues to churn northbound. Predictions now call for it remain as a MAJOR Hurricane while it passes along a projected path through the Bahamas and skirts the east coast of the USA.

The Nassau Airport Development Company has convened a meeting with the Bahamas Metereological Department and has determined that the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) will close at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016.
The public is advised to listen for announcements following Hurricane Matthew's crossing over the Bahamian islands to find out when airport operations will resume.

Bahamas airports are in the process of being inspected and reopened.
Nassau MYNN and Exuma International MYEF are already open
Nassau, North Andros and Freeport were hit very hard as well as the Berry Islands. If you plan to travel to these destinations/islands in the coming weeks, you should check on the status of your lodging and the infrastructure of the island.
