Mexico's agency in charge of controlling and administering airspace, SENEAM, continues to strictly apply regulations. Operators who have flown through any part of Mexico's airspace, even it was over water, are most likely liable for payment of these fees.

We have received numerous calls from pilots circling over the Gulf Of Mexico who have been denied access into Mexican airspace asking for assistance. Don't let yourself get into these situations, contact us for clarification and assistance in obtaining the status of any debts owed by your aircraft. If you have purchased a used aircraft, be sure that you did not also purchase the unpaid fees of that aircraft as well.

Many pilots do not realize that the routes they have flown may have incurred debts. Some of the routes that catch pilots by surprise are:

South Florida to Belize: IFR and VFR routes that depart the Key West area to Belize, Guatemala or points further south. The airways affected are B879/UB879, B764/UB764, G765/UG765. It is important to note that even if you are under VFR and remain more than 12 NM off the coast, you are still liable for airspace fees. Remember that flights to Central America via these routes will also incur COCESNA airspace fees that will also have to be paid if the aircraft has an MTOW of 12,500 lbs or greater. If you fly to Belize or the rest of Central America via a Cuban overflight, you will also incur COCESNA and Kingston airspace fees that will have to be paid if the aircraft has an MTOW of 12,500 lbs or greater.

Texas/Louisiana to Cayman Islands. Routes that cut across the Gulf of Mexico like UT11, UL674, A766/UA766, UM782, UT35 all cross through the Mexican FIR. In addition, routes that join R640/UR640 between DANUL and MAMBI will also be liable for COCESNA airspace fees that will also have to be paid if the aircraft has an MTOW of 12,500 lbs or greater.

Planning routes can have consequences beyond the immediately obvious which if not addressed can impact further operations of your aircraft. For assistance with route selection and payment of the corresponding fees, contact us at +1 786 206 6147 or at info@caribbeanskytours.com
