We received notification from the owner of the Hawkline Aviation FBO in Stella Maris, Bahamas (MYLS) (Tel 242-338-2006) that they are in the process of installing emergency runway lights for after hours operations at MYLS.

These lights are not intended for normal night operations, they are intended for emergency evacuation flights. There have been terrible accidents in the Bahamas out islands where medical charter flights have attempted to land using automobile headlights or other improvised lighting methods with fatal results. The Bahamas government is investing in these systems so that if the need presents itself, a resident or visitor on the island could be evacuated at nights if it were necessary.

In the meantime, be advised that there may be men and equipment on the runway edges at MYLS installing the new lights.
