The VOR at the Bocas del Toro airport is out of service and looks like it probably will remain that way for at least the month of July. If you are planning to fly to/within Panama in the coming weeks and plan to use VOR/DME for navigation or plan to fly IFR to Bocas del Toro (MPBO), you should check NOTAMS and ATC to determine the status of this VOR. The G440/UG440 and V15 and V17 airways use this VOR. All Instrument Approaches for MPBO are VOR/DME based. The lack of VOR/DME operation essentially makes this a VFR airport in the meantime. Remember that weather in this area can often be low IFR so be informed and prepared before you go.
