As many of you know, upon learning about the planned implementation of the Click2Clear requirement for Private Aircraft by Bahamas Customs, CST alerted the aviation community and most importantly, AOPA, to the negative impact that this system would have to General Aviation tourism to The Bahamas. Over the last several weeks, CST has been working behind the scenes with Bahamas Customs, Bahamas Tourism and AOPA to point out the most serious flaws with the system and the impact that it would have to General Aviation.

AOPA's president, Mark Baker, took the lead on this issue and sent a letter to Bahamas government officials requesting a delay in the implementation of Click2Clear. This delay would allow time for stakeholders to provide feedback in order to improve the system and make it easy and practical to use as well as allowing time to communicate to the industry of how to use the system.

Yesterday, May 31st, the acting Comptroller of Bahamas Customs announced the indefinite postponement of the Click2Clear system for private aircraft.

This is a great example of industry leadership by AOPA and by interested parties as well as leadership by the Bahamian government to avoid implementing something that could have had a negative impact on the Bahamian economy.

There are more meetings taking place to determine how long this delay will be in place and we will keep you updated with new information as we receive it.
