Hello All, I am new to the group. Have been a CST member for a couple years. Very pleased with the online educational videos and information. I am planning a trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica from Marathon, FL. What can I expect for routing? I have been given initial inbound FIR crossing points of FUNDI and KATAL. Returning to Marathon FIR crossing points of KATAL and IKBIX. Both sound logical. Will there be additional waypoints or can I expect a direct leg between FIR points? Fuel at final destination on each end is my biggest concern. Not a ton of wiggle room for creative vectors by an ambitious Havana controller. Additionally, has anyone on here been to Montego Bay recently. A few very bad comments on ForeFlight about services at Sangster Airport. What honest tips can you offer to a pilgram on my first private flight to Jamaica? Thanks!

Hello everyone!
Thank you for your post, bopilot. Travelling to Jamaica for the first time is always exciting but there are some things to expect.
Here are some helpful tips that we hope could help you during your flight:
- Flights outside of the US will always require to fly published airways, so regarding your question, you can expect a routing using airways since you can not fly a direct route between FIR points.
- When flying to Jamaica from Florida, you usually have to cross Cuban Airspace, so a Cuban Overflight Permit is a must for this trip. Please note that the Cuban Overflight permit that you obtained through our website includes all the fees for use of Airspace and of course, the overflight permit.
- eAPIS & CARICOM APIS: For every International Flight you must submit your correponding eAPIS when departing and arriving the U.S.A. Aditionally, you must file CARICOM APIS for international arrival and departure flights at least 1 hour before the flights to and from Jamaica.
- Good news! As of 01 March 2022, all Part 91 flights do not need a landing permit in Jamaica.
- COVID-19 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: In order to enter to Jamaica, you must comply with the currrent entry regulations. All Passengers and Crew members, regardless their vaccination status must have a negative COVID-19 Antigen or PCR test taken at most 3 days before departure from the first embarkation point. Please note that this does not apply to passengers younger than 12 years.
- Fuel does not need to be a concern . A list of Fuel Prices is available on our members website under the International Flying Section - Bahamas & the Caribbean - Fuel Prices and AOES
Remember to bring original and copy of the following documents with you during your flight:
- Aircraft Airworthiness Certificate
- Aircraft Registration Certificate (Pink Temporary Registration Certificates NOT allowed. Only a permanent Registration Certificate or FAA Temporary Registration Certificate issued by the Aircraft Registration Branch in Oklahoma City “Flywire” is allowed).
- Complete Aircraft Insurance Policy
- Airman certificate (license) for each crew member with the following: The phrase “English Proficient” on the back / Appropriate Type Rating for all required crewmembers. (Note that FAR 61.55 (a)(3) and international regulations require that BOTH crewmembers be Type Rated in aircraft Type Certificated for a minimum crew of 2. Also note that Single-Pilot Waivers issued by the FAA may have no validity for international operations or may not be accepted by foreign countries.)
- Medical certificate for each crew member
- US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Southern Border Overflight Exemption (If you do not plan to land at the CBP Designated Airport closest to your point of border or coastline crossing).
Unfortunately, we have not heard about services at Sangster Airport but we hope you have a great experience in there.
