Planning my first trip to Bahamas March 19 2022. Applied for Restricted FCC operators and station licensees about 2 weeks ago. Still pending on their terrible website. I have heard from one person say it took him a year to get his operators license and another person said they go to Bahamas all the time and have never held any FCC licenses. What are the chances the FCC doesn't get to my licenses by March and how big of a deal are they really? I already have my CBP Sticker.

Was planning to depart out of KFXE and head to MYAN then to MYES. Is banyan the best for rental equipment like EPIRB and life raft?

Thanks!

Been a while since I got my RTOP and aircraft radio station license, but both were processed fairly quickly. I want to say almost instantly. So I’m surprised to hear of your delay.

Practically, I’ve never been asked for any of these documents by anyone in the US, Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, or the Bahamas. I’ve been to/from the Bahamas 10+ times.

Banyan does rent life rafts. As does the FBO at FPR. I’d reserve ahead of time to ensure availability. I’ve never heard of either renting a PLB/EPIRB. I’ve never asked, but I believe you need to register them to a specific person with emergency contacts, which would complicate the process of renting them out. But perhaps they’ve sorted through it.

Anyway, enjoy the trip!
