We wanted to make pilots aware of an airport that can be used for arrivals into the USA: Edinburg, TX (KEBG) which is just northeast of McAllen, TX (KMFE). Unfortunately, you DO REQUIRE a Border Overflight Exemption (BOE) from CBP to land there but it could save you the hassle, higher fuel prices and congestion at KMFE. If you plan to regularly fly to the USA, getting the BOE and using this airport could be a real plus. Another plus is that CBP management would really like to drive traffic there so you should find the CBP officer(s) there to be very accessible and friendly. The number for CBP at KEBG is 956 283 2005.
