When do I need a BOE?
All aircraft flying back to the USA from a foreing airport south of 30 degrees in the eastern U.S. and south of 33 degrees in the western U.S must make the first landing at a CBP Desingated Airport of Entry, closest to the point of border or coastline crossing.
Any Operator who wants to land at a different International Airport must hold a valid BOE.

Do I need one for each Tail Number?
No, the BOE will be issued to the Operator, allowing operators to use a BOE with any aircraft and with any crewmembers, provided that the operator, tail number and crewmembers are listed on the eAPIS manifest submitted to CBP and that the manifest is authorized by DHS.

How long does it take for a BOE to be granted?
CBP states that it may take up to 30 days to process a new BOE or authorize a renewal.

How long is it valid for?
BOEs will usually be granted for 2 years, however, this depends on CBP's decision.
