Some of our members have noticed new rings appearing on the new FAA Caribbean 1 VFR and low altitude enroute IFR charts. These rings appear around Marsh Harbour (MYAM), Treasure Cay (MYAT), North Eleuthera (MYEH), Governor’s Harbour (MYEM), Rock Sound (MYER), San Salvador (MYSM) and Exuma Intl. (MYEF). Next to these rings you will find a box with the vertical dimensions of the airspace as well as a controlling ATC agency with a comm frequency.

As this does not appear in our copy of the Bahamas Aeronautical Information Publication nor in any of its circulars or advisories, we contacted the director of the Bahamas Air Navigation Services to find out what was up. The bottom line, it did not come from them and no one seems to know how they got there. However, the director emphasized the following points:

> There are no restrictions of any kind to fly to/from these airports under VFR or IFR
> You do not require a clearance from anybody to enter the Class E airspace defined by these rings
> You WILL NOT get an instrument approach clearance. The approaches for these airports continue to be NOT AUTHORIZED (even though Jeppesen continues to publish them)
> They are working hard to get the Control Tower in Marsh Harbour operating which would then make their airspace Class D airspace which does require a clearance and they would then be able to use the Instrument Approaches for that airport

This is the latest information that we have and we wanted to alert our members so that they are not concerned nor confused by these new airspace notifications on these charts

By the way, Jeppesen is showing the same airspace rings.

You are correct. It appears that somebody must be releasing this information yet the department heads indicate that it was not from them.....

If the airspace is truly Class G, then you don't need a clearance and can fly whatever approach you want...including one that looks suspiciously like the published ones.
