We will be attending the annual "Amigos de la Aviación" in Merida next week. We plan to review the status of our requests regarding the 406 MHz ELT, insurance clarification for Mexico and other topics. If anyone has any questions that you would like for us to ask, please advise before Tuesday, June 6, 2011

"what is this insurance clarification"? Can I follow AOPA listed requirements on insurance and be OK, or is there something else? Thanks

Hello Fernando, the inurance issue is that while the DGAC in Mexico City says that your US insurance is valid in Mexico, some of the DGAC offices at airports say otherwise. We have been asking the DGAC to publish a document that clarifies this so that pilots can carry a copy with them.

Do you expect that I will have this kind of problem entering Mexico through Cancun?
Thanks

Fernando, I am based in Cancun and have used my US insurance regularly. However, a new comandante always throws a new variable into the equation. I have already met with the new comandante and cannot say that I came away with a warm and fuzzy feeling. What you may want to do is to contac the DGAC office in Cancun and speak with an inspector and send them your documents. Get the name of the inspector you spoke to in the event someone tells you something different. The telephone for the DGAC in Cancun is: 011-52-998-886-0114. I am currently traveling so I cam not able to go tot he DGAC office at the airport.

I do plan to be at the airport Wednesday and can check to see if there are an y changes to arrival procedures in Cancun. Naturally, if there are we will be contacing Mexico City to try and get things sorted out but would not want you to arrive and be caught in the middle of it. If you would like to send us your documents, we will be happy to review them for you. You can send them to info@caribbeanskytours.com
