Not sure when this started as I was in the Bahamas only a few weeks ago, but the Bahamas government website now indicates that private pilots must pay landing and parking fees. The fees are modest but combined with the $50/plane entry and $29/person exit fee, they do add up.

Any intel on when this happened or if it is really meant to apply to private flights? The Bill of Rights is more like just a bill at this point.

Hi Daniel,

Can you please tell us where on the Bahamas.com webpage you found the information on landing and parking fees?

It's at the link at the bottom of my post.

Pasting again here:

The grammar and formatting is poor, which makes me think it was updated hastily. And this wasn't there until recently, as I viewed this page not too long ago.

Hi Daniel,

You are correct, this is new information. We are in contact with The Bahamas government to investigate this. We have also noted a few other changes to The Bahamas government website which do not appear to be correct or are not working properly. As soon as we know more, we will advise.

Well, unfortunately, you were right. This has been hastily published and no announcement made, not even to us Bahamas Flying Ambassadors. While any fees are bad fees, at least they are low enough that they should not have any significant impact on the overall cost of a trip. In comparison, daily parking fees for a Cessna 172 in Liberia, Costa Rica are $ 180 USD per day. This is more than most of the nightly rates for hotel rooms in the area!

What official government action announces this? Is there a publication in an official gazette or anything?

Are they effective immediately?

We were just as surprised. We were asked to make a presentation at Airventure by The Bahamas government. There was no mention to us nor in the presentation about the fees. We have an active subscription to The Bahamas AIP and as of et there is no mention about the fees. It seems that they simply put them in there and sat back.
