Last year I flew as planned to Buenos Aires from Syracuse, NY in my 1956 G35 Bonanza. What an incredible experience! I spent the months of November and December traveling South America and used the Western route, flew over Cuba to Cartagena, Colombia, then to Cali, Colombia, then to Guayaquil, Ecuador, Trujillo, Peru, Pisco, Peru, Nazca, Peru, Tacna, Peru, Antofagasta, Chile, Santiago, Chile, Puerto Montt, Chile, Bariloche, Argentina, Trelew, Argentina, Mar del Plata, Argentina, Buenos Aires, Argentina and other spots. I did not use agents except for a couple of spots, so I had to learn to deal with immigration, customs, airport police and any other bureaucracy. Planned this trip for a few months and several people helped. Planning to write a book out of it. Gathered A LOT of information. If anybody has questions, I'll be glad to answer. Hans Sturm, a Canadian controller in BC gave me several invaluable tips (most important: bring lots of cash).

By the way one of the many things I learned during the trip, I learned in Argentina. A weather briefer showed me a weather site from Spain that shows a graphical depiction of an area forecast that was invaluable during my trip. The url is:
http://www.ogimet.com You can use the English version. I found the Gramet aero METEOGRAM to be a very useful graph. You type the station you are interested, or the stations (airports) along your route and you will see the weather conditions along your route in graphical form. Give it a try. It was very useful on my trip in South America and I constantly use it here at home to get an idea of the weather ahead.
