Some of the most common questions we receive from our customers who operate charter businesses relate to Entry Permit requirements for countries they need to fly to.
Unfortunately, there is no simple answer other than "it depends".
Each country has its own unique regulations regarding entry requirements for Charter (revenue) flights that range from no requirements to specific permits required in advance of the flight. In addition, countries have their own regulations regarding cabotage: flying revenue passengers within the country. Again, these range from no restrictions to total prohibition. Similarly, airspace fees for Flight Information Regions (FIR) can vary depending on whether a flight is for private travel or for revenue.
Therefore, if you are a charter operator and receive a request for a flight to an international destination, you should become thoroughly informed on airspace and destination requirements so that you appropriately include all related fees in your quotation to your customer as well as obtain any necessary permits in advance.
While there are great variations on requirements, there are also great variations on the consequences for getting on the wrong side of regulations. Therefore, to avoid significant fines, seizure of an aircraft and disruptions to the travel schedule of your customers, you should make sure that you are informed. If you plan to use a Handling company, (like Caribbean Sky Tours) you should know the questions to ask so that you can avoid surprises.
