PILOT'S GUIDE

Having lived in Mexico for many years we have realized that there is a great need for accurate and up to date information for General Aviation pilots who want to travel to and within Mexico.

With the support of the Mexican Civil Aviation Authorities, we have prepared the “Pilot’s Guide to Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula” to orient pilots departing from the USA who would like to visit this unique part of the world in the comfort and convenience of their own private airplane.
The Pilot’s Guide to Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula compiles applicable and current information on U.S. and Mexican regulations and guidelines that apply to private aircraft on international flights from the USA to Mexico. We provide detailed information on airports in the Yucatan Peninsula and observations from our own flying experience.

The Pilot’s Guide is divided into three sections: the Pilot Reference Section, the Documents Section and the Airport Reference Section.

Pilot Reference Section:
In this section we review the documents, equipment and appropriate flying procedures for flying to Mexico, flying within Mexico and returning to the USA. We include general information that may be of interest to the traveler and a list of some of the key government agencies and their functions. In addition, we review how to get fuel and weather information and share tips and information gathered from our own experience of flying in Mexico.

Documents Section:
During your trip to Mexico you will need to file flight plans using the ICAO international flight plan format and you may also have to complete other forms to close your flight plan at certain airports. To assist you, we have included samples of some of the forms that you may encounter in Mexico along with step by step instructions on how to fill them out. We also include lists of Mexican and U.S. designated airports of entry to assist you in your flight planning.

Airport Reference Section:
To assist pilots in planning and executing their flight, we include sketches, pictures and airport data to supplement official navigation charts. The information in this section is derived from official airport data and has been reviewed and updated with the help of local Civil Aviation officials and by conducting our own visits to each airport. We also include information on fees, hours of operation, forms used, fuel availability and fuel payment options, as well as general observations relevant to each airport. A small description of places of interest at each destination has also been included.

At Caribbean Sky Tours we provide the pilot with information that supplements official navigation charts to make their flying experience a more pleasant one. Please note that this information applies ONLY to fixed wing aircraft on private, non-commercial flights from the USA to Mexico and back. Other rules may apply to other types of aircraft or to commercial aircraft operations.
